Volunteer suicide bombers seek to attack Israel

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Hard-line Iranian student groups have asked the government to authorize volunteers to go carry out suicide bombings in Israel in response to the Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip.

The government of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had not responded to the call by Wednesday. Five hard-line student groups and a conservative clerical group launched a registration drive on Monday, seeking volunteers to carry out suicide attacks against Israel.

In an open letter to Ahmadinjead, the students said "volunteer student suicide groups ... are determined to go to Gaza. You are expected to issue orders to the relevant authorities in order to pave the way for such action." A copy of the letter was made available to The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Volunteer suicide groups have made similar requests in the past and the government never responded to their calls. Some hard-liners have claimed previously they succeeded in secretly sending bombers to Israel, but their claims have never been verified, and there has not been any sign of Iranians carrying out suicide attacks in Israel - raising the likelihood the groups' activities are mainly for propaganda purposes.

The hard-liners started signing up volunteers after Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a religious decree Sunday saying anyone killed while defending Palestinians in Gaza against Israeli attacks would be considered a martyr.

The groups claim that more than than 10,000 people throughout Iran have registered as volunteer suicide bombers in the past three days. At a gathering Tuesday in Tehran, hard-liners were distributing registration forms to volunteers.

"How can I remain indifferent while defenseless Palestinians are being butchered," said one volunteer, Ali Reza Takrim Namini, as he filled out the registration form.

Another, Mostafa Babaei, vowed, "I'm willing to sacrifice my blood in support of Islam and in defense of Palestinian Muslims."

The volunteers wore white shrouds symbolizing their willingness to die and headbands with the slogan "Defenders of Gaza" and "Ready for Martyrdom." Most of those registering were members of the Basij militia, a hard-line paramilitary group that has tens of thousands of members and is often involved in drumming up popular fervor against Israel and the West.

Israel's bombardment of Gaza, whick has killed hundreds of Palestinians, has sparked outrage in Iran and throughout the rest of the Muslim world. Israel says it launched its campaign in retaliation for rocket fire aimed at civilians in southern Israeli towns by Hamas. Iran is Hamas' main backer, providing it considerable financial aid, though Tehran denies sending it weapons.

Protesters have held daily rallies outside the Egyptian interests section in Tehran, as well as the Jordanian and Saudi embassies, protesting what they call inaction by Arab nations. On Thursday, hard-line students threatened to storm the Egyptian mission unless Egypt open its Rafah border crossing with Gaza, a step Cairo has refused.

Late Tuesday, a branch of the Italian clothing retailer Benetton in northern Tehran was set fire, apparently as part of a protest. The state-owned newspaper Iran reported the attack, repeating a claim often made by hard-liners that the chain is "affiliated to the Zionist network." The branch showed minor damage, with some burned clothes and scorch marks.

Irony: US anti-kidnapping expert kidnapped in Mexico

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- A well-known U.S. anti-kidnapping expert has himself fallen victim to Mexico's wave of abductions as unidentified assailants snatched him from a street in the northern city of Saltillo, one of his employers said Monday.

Carl and Raylene Worthington are charged with negligent homicide for the death of their 2 year old daughter. She passed away from pneumonia when her genius parent's decided to "pray" the sick out of her.
This story is nothing new. But it gets kinda exciting if you read their defense attorneys' motion to dismiss the indictment. This is the most incoherent rambling piece of legal douche baggery that I have read in a LONG time. This stellar legal team argues the following:
1 - These two cannot be prosecuted because they didn't know it was illegal to let their child die.
2 - The founding father's of the Oregon constitution did not like medical doctors, so therefore, they would not have required anyone to take their child to one.
3 - That the state totally promised not to prosecute them!
4 - And that there should just be a law that says a parent has to notify the state when their kid get's sick and this would prevent killings in the future.
That last one you have to really think about now. They actually argue that because DHS exists and that someone COULD have made a neglect report (resulting in an emergency guardianship I presume) and that the state could then have taken the child to get treatment, that they can't be prosecuted. And if the court doesn't believe that will save future kids from their parents, that the court should make it a requirement that the parent's themselves notify the state when their kid is sick. Because that is WAAAYYYY less intrusive then just taking your kids to the fucking doctor.
The defense attorney's cite every case possible to argue their many varied defenses. Umm...except the ones ON POINT. Such as, maybe that the Supreme Court has already ruled on this issue?

In Prince v. Massachusetts (1944), the U.S. Supreme Court unmistakably declared that parents do not have the right, in the name of religion, to endanger the lives of their children:

The family itself is not beyond regulation in the public interest, as against a claim of religious liberty. And neither the rights of religion nor the rights of parenthood are beyond limitation…The right to practice religion freely does not include the right to expose the community or the child to communicable disease or the latter to ill-health or death…

Parents may be free to become martyrs themselves. But it does not follow they are free, in identical circumstances, to make martyrs of their children before they can make that choice for themselves.

More recently in 1972, in Wisconsin v. Yoder, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled:

The power of the parent, even when linked to a free exercise claim, may be subjected to limitation under Prince if it appears that parental decision will jeopardize the health or safety of the child.

In 1990, the U.S. Supreme Court made it absolutely clear in Oregon Department of Human Resources v. Smith that first amendment guarantees of religious freedom do not constitutionally require states to grant religious exemptions to child neglect and manslaughter laws. (Religious exemptions to medical care for children in most states are exemptions to child neglect statutes; proponents of exemptions have also claimed that such exemptions also extend to manslaughter laws.) The first amendment does not grant parents the right to let their children suffer and die because of their refusal, on religious grounds, to obtain essential medical care. The court ruled that to allow religious exemption to a wide variety of criminal laws would make it impossible for our society to function, and

...would open the prospect of constitutionally required religious exemptions from civic obligations of almost every conceivable kind - ranging from…the payment of taxes, to health and safety regulations, such as manslaughter and child neglect laws, compulsory vaccination laws, drug laws and traffic laws…

Maybe it's just me, but if I was writing the reply brief I would be pretty tempted to argue for sanctions on this one.

Tuskegee Airmen invited to attend inauguration - Perfection

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Tuskegee Airmen, a group of black pilots who fought in World War II, have been invited to attend President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration.

Carole Florman, a spokeswoman for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, says Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., sent a letter Tuesday to Tuskegee Airmen Inc. asking them to attend. The Arlington, Va.-based organization represents 330 of the original pilots.

Each member will receive two nontransferable tickets. They have 10 days to decide if they will attend.

Feinstein, who chairs the joint committee, said in a statement the airmen helped remove race as an obstacle to public service.

Robert Rose, vice president of the organization, says members are "elated and honored" by the invitation.

Bush frustrated with UN peace efforts in Darfur

WASHINTON (AP) — President George W. Bush says he is frustrated with the pace of U.N. efforts to end a wave of killings in Darfur.

The president spoke to reporters after meeting with Dr. Halima Bashir, who was tortured and gang-raped after speaking out about rapes of girls as young as eight near her remote clinic in Darfur. For her safety, Bashir was covered head to toe in a red, black and white sheath.

Bush held a copy of Bashir's book about the years of brutality, titled, "Tears of the Desert."

He said the United Nations must expedite sending peacekeepers.

The conflict in Darfur has claimed the lives of up to 300,000 people and displaced more than 2.5 million, according to U.N. officials. The government in Khartoum argues that the numbers are exaggerated.

Colbert proclaimed a while back on “60 Minutes” that he never lets his children watch his shows, because they don’t get his irony. He just makes them so that everyone else’s children are instructed to laugh along.

6. Despite my atheist character, I truly like the holidays. It really pisses me off when people claim that atheists can't celebrate thanksgiving or christmas because of some dumb-ass reason that makes no sense. I can be thankful for my family and friends and enjoy eating and drinking without it involving a magical super-being. I also recently figured out that god and Santa Claus are the EXACT SAME PERSON. Evidence: (a) both "see you when you are sleeping" and "know when you are awake"; (2) both "know if you've been bad or good"; and (tres) so you have to be good or you won't get any presents (i.e., go to Heaven). Conclusion: I have never received presents via magic reindeer, therefore, god does not exist. Q.E.D.

People are idiots - UPDATED

So i'm sure everyone has heard about the Wal-mart "killing" on this wonderful "black friday." What you may not know is that the person killed was a fucking wal-mart employee!!! Not just some fucking idiot who decided to put themselves in this situation, but the GUY WHO UNLOCKED THE DOOR. Oh it gets better:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., based in Bentonville, Ark., called the incident a "tragic situation" and said the employee came from a temporary agency and was doing maintenance work at the store. It said it tried to prepare for the crowd by adding staffers and outside security workers, putting up barricades and consulting police.

He was a TEMP!!! Oh and the extra security workers, not so much.

"This crowd was out of control," Fleming said. He described the scene as "utter chaos," and said the store didn't have enough security. Dozens of store employees trying to fight their way out to help Damour were also getting trampled by the crowd, Fleming said. Shoppers stepped over the man on the ground and streamed into the store.

So who is really to blame here? The selfish, self-absorbed assholes who shop at wal-mart and are so eager to get $50 off a plasma screen TV that they willingly kill a person? OR the greedy corporate establishment that won't get the proper security in order to protect lives.

Also fun things about this story: an 8-month pregnant woman was taken to the hospital for injuries (yeah you're a smart one! Glad you're gonna be a mom); and people actually got irate and started yelling at staff when told they should leave because a PERSON WAS DEAD. They continued to shop...

Oh, if you wanted to know what was so important that these people trampled a man to death for it was, "a Samsung 50-inch Plasma HDTV for $798, a Bissel Compact Upright Vacuum for $28, a Samsung 10.2 megapixel digital camera for $69 and DVDs such as "The Incredible Hulk" for $9." That's right. You died so some asshat could buy the Hulk for 9 bucks...

Judge orders release of 5 from Guantanamera

A federal judge on Thursday ordered the release of five Algerians held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the continued detention of a sixth in a major blow to the Bush administration's strategy to keep terror suspects locked up without charges.

In the first case of its kind, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said the government's evidence linking the five Algerians to al-Qaida was not credible as it came from a single, unidentified source. Therefore, he said, the five could not be held indefinitely as enemy combatants, and should be released immediately.

Ok, well, mistakes are made, I'm sure we haven't held them that long, lets just get them out as soon as possible:

Leon also urged senior Justice Department leaders ... not to appeal his ruling.

Leon said the five Algerians already have been improperly held for seven years and deserve to go home. He said an appeal could delay their release for up to another two years.

The Justice Department said later Thursday it had not decided whether it would.

What really caused the economic meltdown

What really went missing through the subprime mortgage years were the three Rs: responsibility, restraint and remorse. They are the ballast that stabilizes two better-known Rs from the world of free markets: risk and reward.

Responsibility and restraint are moral sentiments. Remorse is a product of conscience. None of these grow on trees. Each must be learned, taught, passed down. And so we come back to the disappearance of "Merry Christmas."

It has been my view that the steady secularizing and insistent effort at dereligioning America has been dangerous. That danger flashed red in the fall into subprime personal behavior by borrowers and bankers, who after all are just people. Northerners and atheists who vilify Southern evangelicals are throwing out nurturers of useful virtue with the bathwater of obnoxious political opinions.

The point for a healthy society of commerce and politics is not that religion saves, but that it keeps most of the players inside the chalk lines. We are erasing the chalk lines.

Because greed never entered into it back when we had good Christianists on Wall Street (before those northern atheists threw them out).

So I ran across this site and the premise is that you put in a website (I did this one) and it gives you the "personality type" of the author. This is based on the Jung Typology Test which I have taken several times in the past. I found it very interesting that this was the result:

ESTP - The Doers

The active and play-ful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.

The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.

What is interesting about this is that it is totally NOT my personality type. Of course, this is an objective way to simply base an analysis on the content of blog posts, so I don't guess its terribly accurate, but still! So this leads me to the quandary of whether or not I am my "authentic self" (thanks Oprah!) IRL or online..... Maybe I have split personalities! I think I may have an identity crisis....

Obama has espoused the socialist idea of "spreading the wealth" in other words raising the tax rates on business and the wealthy to a burdensome level in order to redistribute their income to low income individuals, many of whom don't currently pay taxes [LOSERS!]. From which [I think we’re gonna have to put a “sic” right there as that makes no grammatical sense] John McCain replied "He's running for Redistributor In Chief, I'm running for Commander In Chief." ^[6] The slogan "From each according to their ability to each according to their need" is an idea originally proposed by Karl Marx and is clearly the inspiration for the centrally planned economy Obama will introduce to the US in January 2009. In addition, his health care plan forces employers to purchase health care or pay a fine and will force many into a poorly run single payer system.[WOW they sited to his actual plan and everything! Oh wait…they didn’t..] The socialization of health care will force taxpayers to pay for healthcare for those who refuse to purchase it themselves. [Ummm hello! What the fuck do you think is happening right now?]

The October 2008 crimes against Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson's family highlight Obama's record against law and order, as he voted against making it a crime in Illinois "for convicts on probation or on bail to have contact with a street gang".^[8] The person of interest in the murders of Hudson's mother, brother, and 7-year-old nephew is the estranged husband of Hudson's sister and a convicted felon who had violated his parole conditions. ^[9] "'We've got 75,000 gang members - that's almost six gang members to one police officer.'"^[10] [Because Jennifer Hudson is central to the conservative movement and if Obama had not told this “thug” (see what I did there?!?!) to kill her family none of this would have totally happened!]

Doctors from the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons have stated that Obama uses techniques of mind control in his speeches and campaign symbols. [ZOMFG! Zombie mind control!! Claimed by doctors who are too scared to state their names!!!oneone!!!1] For example, one speech declared, "a light will shine down from somewhere, it will light upon you, you will experience an epiphany, and you will say to yourself, 'I have to vote for Barack.'"^[20] [Fuck! The evidence that Obama is a Muslim includes:

• Obama's background, education, and outlook are Muslim, and fewer than 1% of Muslims convert to Christianity.^[22][23] [You win this argument, sir!]
• Obama's middle name (Hussein) references Husayn, who was the grandson of Muhammad, which most Christians would not retain.^[24] [I found jebus, I MUST change my middle name! Thank God I haven’t found jebus. With my stripper name I’d have to re-do the whole fucking thing]
• Obama stated that the autobiography of Malcolm X, a Nation of Islam leader who became a Muslim, inspired him in his youth.^[27] [Because that book was totally NOT about a black man overcoming obstacles to become a leader in the black power struggle. Or anything. Like that. Just Muslim’in it up in there]
• Obama raised nearly $1 million and campaigned for a Kenyan presidential candidate who had a written agreement with Muslim leaders promising to convert Kenya to an Islamic state that bans Christianity.^[28] [Umm… No…FAIL]
• Obama's claims of conversion to Christianity arose after he became politically ambitious, lacking a date of conversion or baptism.^[29] [Gasp! Someone who would fake religion to be in politics! I am shocked and appalled sir.]
• On the campaign trail Obama has been reading "The Post-American World" by Fareed Zakaria,^[30] which is written from a Muslim point-of-view.^[31] [Umm… No…FAIL]
• Obama uses the Muslim Pakistani pronunciation for "Pakistan" rather than the common American one.^[32] [Well FUCK ME! He has command of the English language. Total Muslim]
• Obama is mentioned as helping to organize the 1995 million man march led by black Muslim leader Louis Farrakhan from the Nation of Islam. ^[35] [Sold. He’s Muslim all right]

Obama tries to downplay his Islamic background by claiming that his Kenyan Muslim father was a "confirmed atheist" before Obama was born, but in fact less than 1% of Kenyans are atheists, agnostics or non-religious.^[36] [Since only about 1% of them receive any form of education, I would guess this is about right.]

Obama and Elitism

Obama has consistently shown himself to be an elitist who looks down on "ordinary" Americans. Asked to explain why working-class Democrats do not support him while campaigning for the Pennsylvania primary, Obama replied "it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."^[37] In response to outrage when his remarks were unexpectedly publicized, Obama did not recount his statement but instead replied, I "didn't say it as well as I should have."^[38] Although many rural counties went for McCain, Obama carried the state with 54.6% of the vote, compared to 44.3% for John McCain.^[39] [So your point is?]

In an attempt counter the view by many that Obama is an elitist, he began running campaign ads claiming that he "worked his way through college and Harvard Law." This claim is at best an exaggeration, as Obama only held summer jobs while in college and law school^[40], and he would have likely benefited from special scholarships not available to most students. [And by “most” they mean “white.” Cause you know those negro’s gets all the breaks]

Obama almost always reads from prepared text on a teleprompter and rarely allows tough questions.^[41][42] Indeed, when unable to read from prepared text he often fails at articulating his positions and is caught tripping over his own feet.^[43] His most recent debate performances illustrate that he may have been extensively coached over the course of 2008, although he still repeatedly fumbles at moments where he moves off his memorized remarks. [Unlike Sarah Pallin who received no coaching at all]

Obama has described himself as a constitutional law professor at the University of Chicago.^[45] He held the position of Lecturer, an adjunct position, from 1992 to 1996.^[46] He held the position of Senior Lecturer from 1996 until his election to the senate in 2004.^[47] Dan Ronayne, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, has pointed that Obama was only a senior lecturer and not a full professor. ^[48]The University states that Senior Lecturers are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure track.^[49] [Wow….he isn’t even a “full” professor…]

Like I needed ANOTHER reason to hate going to Arkansas!

So we all know Arkansas passed this genius piece of legislation on the 4th:

BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF ARKANSAS:
Section 1: Adoption and foster care of minors.
(a) A minor may not be adopted or placed in a foster home if the individual seeking to adopt or to serve as a foster parent is cohabiting with a sexual partner outside of a marriage which is valid under the constitution and laws of this state.

This is saddening and disgusting on SOOO many levels. First, there are a purported 3 times the number of children in the foster care system in Arkansas than there are foster homes. In addition, there is an estimated over 400 children who will be removed from their current foster homes and placed in group facilities because of this measure.

From my reading there is nothing speaking to retroactivity (shout out to Prop 8 there!), so I have no idea what this will mean to FINALIZED adoptions where an adoptive parent is homosexual. The ACLU has yet to publicize their position on the new law. However, since they originally fought this action in Arkansas, I am sure they will try to get this overturned. >DONATE<

But other than the obvious fact that, anyone who wants to open their home to a child who needs one should deserve our respect and support, is what the fuck has happened to our right to privacy?

How the hell does the state government of Arkansas enforce this? You obviously have to have a home-study to foster in Arkansas, so that would pick up whether there was something LIVING in the house. But how do they know if it is a friend? Roommate? Are their CONTINUING visitation? Maybe we should be looking for the signs of CHILD ABUSE rather than the sexual preference of people. Do these religious right-wing nuts think that if they "law" the "gay" out of the world that they will be forced to actually STAY IN THE CLOSET THEMSELVES? Doubtful.

With Prop 8 and this backwoods douche-bagery, this election is very bitter-sweet for me. We can only hope that the incredible equality that was exhibited in the presidential election will flow to the rest of the country and that new appointees will be cognizent of the need to err on the side of equality. I'm going to take a xanax now....

8 year-old "murder suspect" to be tried as an adult?

The AP is reporting on this story about an 8 year old boy who apparently shot his father and another person living in the house. If you watch the video from MSNBC the scroll bar says "the police" are going to charge him as an adult due to the "heinous nature" of the crimes. So, first, the guy being interviewed clearly says he isn't charged with anything yet. Then there is the fact that "police" can't charge anyone with anything! Then there is the fact they want to charge an eight year old as an ADULT? How can an eight year old possibly come close to comprehending what the consequences of his actions really were.

The man in the interview says there is no "report" of abuse. Umm Hi....kids don't always REPORT ABUSE. I do not believe there is any eight year old in the history of the world that would take a gun and shot two people just because he "felt like it." Something caused this to happen.

It's also apparent his mother was not present during any of this. So I am wondering how Miranda was even given. He suposedly confessed, but how can it be valid without a parent present? I'm sure his PD will figure it all out. >sarcasm<
